About The Pumpkin Patch:
In 1991, I started growing Pumpkins for Fun and for the first couple of years I sold them on the side of the road out of my car. In 1993, we had the Winchester fire nearby , so I donated all of my pumpkins to the ''Head Start Program" at Menifee Elementary School. In 1994, I set up a patch that was visible from Scott Road. The Pumpkins were in the sun, and the pumpkins melted. : - ( So, the following year, Jack and I moved the pumpkins under the shade of the old oak trees. Our customers are happier and the pumpkins do not melt.
Under the right conditions, a pumpkin can be kept 4-5 months! But once it is cut open, it will expire within a few days. Since I am no longer able to grow pumpkins here due to my health, we buy them from a local grower. Once they are here , we weigh them , price them and write the price on the bottom of the pumpkin, for the convenience of our customers. We provide wagons for our customers to use while shopping for that "perfect" pumpkin. We carry many varieties of pumpkins, Indian Corn, Ornamental Pumpkins and fresh Gourds. We also carry Pumpkin Carving Kits in our small gift shop. Though we do not offer field trips anymore, large groups are still welcome to visit with advance notice, (for staffing purposes). For decorating your home/yard we also have shocks of corn and straw bales.
Amenities include: Our interpretive center. where the storyboards explain how pumpkins are grown. there are several areas including a growth chart which are suitable for taking pictures with families and friends. Hay rides are available upon request at no cost, a picnic area is available, and a small play area that is located under a large oak tree. Porta potty is on site. We are open every day of the week until Oct. 31st.
